SCRIP NEWS
· Please make sure that you use the new order forms, as the form has been updated with the new stores that are now available and the new denominations for cards from some of the stores have been updated.
· Please be sure to check your order as soon as you pick it up to ensure that you have received everything that you had ordered.
To place an order you just need to fill out the order form and have it in by the end of the service for each SCRIP Sunday (typically every other week). If you will not be around on that Sunday but can fill out your order prior to Sunday and drop it off with Marlene, or put it in the Hartman’s church mailbox, your order will still be placed.

Lutheran World Relief Responds to Devastating Floods in the Philippines
Baltimore, December 17, 2011 — Lutheran World Relief is responding to devastating flooding caused by a tropical storm on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines Friday night. At least 430 people are reported dead, many more are missing, and tens of thousands are affected. The flooding has destroyed homes and crops, including many in areas where LWR has worked for years.
"The storm had a direct hit on LWR's project area," said Joanne Fairley, LWR's regional director for Asia and the Middle East. "Seaweed farmers were about to harvest for the season, bringing in much needed cash for Christmas. This has been totally destroyed. Many have also lost their homes. The devastation is extensive."
LWR is in contact with local staff and partners on the ground, who are assessing the damage and the needs.
"We plan to help meet some of the most critical immediate needs, and also work to help rehabilitate the farms that have been destroyed," Fairley said.
Cash donations are most the most effective way to help those in need. LWR needs to raise $250,000 to respond to this emergency. Donations are accepted online at lwr.org/donate; by phone at 800.597.5972, or by mail at Lutheran World Relief, P.O. Box 1706 Baltimore, MD 21298-9832, USA.
Gifts will be used to respond to the Philippines Floods until needs there are met. Gifts received after that time will be used where needs are greatest.

Interested in Membership
at Gloria Dei?
The process of becoming member takes place two or three times a year. If you have questions or would like to talk further about the possibility of membership, please speak with Pastor Tabitha. Although this process takes place just a couple times a year, we invite you to worship with us on a regular basis, involve your family in opportunities like Sunday School & Bible Study, allow us to get to know each other, and actively participate in community of faith at Gloria Dei.
Help Welcome New Neighbors
to Gloria Dei
Welcome a new neighbor and invite them to worship at Gloria Dei. There are “New Neighbor Packets” available for you to drop off at a new neighbor’s home. The packets are located on the table outside of the church office in a lime green bag. Just pick one up and take it along with a copy of the current DeiLites – or if you would like someone from the EFM Visitors Team to drop it off, contact Marlene in the church office with their name and address and we’ll make sure it’s delivered.
Members and Visitors with Special Needs
A reminder that we have aids for those people with hearing impairment, please ask an usher for assistance.
You will also notice that there are some arm chairs in the last row of the sanctuary for those persons who find it easier to get up and down from a chair rather than the pews Please feel free to use them. For those who use a wheelchair feel free to be seated at the end of any of the pews.
SIMPLE WAYS YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Box Tops for Education
We are collecting the General Mills Box Tops for Education that are on General Mills products. These box tops are then donated to a local school to help purchase extra items for that school. There is an ice cream pail on the food collection shelf in the narthex near the mailboxes if you'd like to bring your box tops to donate.
Used Ink Cartridges
Bring your used ink cartridges to church and help the church save on office supplies. Used cartridges are exchanged for credit to purchase new ink for our computer printers. We saved $884 in 2009 with these donations. This is great stewardship to the church and the environment
