GIVE A WELL!  OUR LENTEN PROJECT
FOR WORLD HUNGER

In John 4, a woman meets Jesus at Jacob's well.  In turn for living water, Jeus offers the woman and each of the gift of eternal life.  Here on earth, water is life, and we must make sure everyone has enough of it to sustain their lives.  With this in mind, our World Hunger project during Lent is aimed providing simple wells in villages that lack fresh water.

With our missionaries, Brian and Kristen Konkol in South Africa, we have set our objectives to raise $2,500 to fund a well in a village in sub-Saharan Africa.  Lutheran World Relief will administer these funds, and 100% of our contribution will be directed toward constructing wells.  If we can raise more than $2,500, more than one well can be provided.

Please put your financial gift in a plain envelop marked for Gloria Dei World Hunger Project.  We will collect gifts through Easter Sunday and will report the results of our project.

TAP GLORIA DEI'S ENDOWMENT

Gloria Dei has an endowment fund to support projects within the congregation and in the community.  Members contribute on special occasions and through their estates.  Funds are  invested, and income and dividends are made available as grants and loans.  A committee of Gloria Dei members meet twice a year to review proposals and distribute funds.  Any Gloria Dei member can submit a proposal.  Proposals are now being requested and due by April 25.  For questions and proposal forms, contact any committee member or the church office.  Committee members are Jim Lange, Vicki Uslabar, Gloria Larson, Chuck Dorn, and Jan Williamson.

SOLES 4 SOLES SHOE DRIVE
@ GLORIA DEI
FEBRUARY 14 - APRIL 18

A unique outreach Activity happening concurrently with Gloria Dei’s Walk to Jerusalem & Martin, South Dakota. Please consider tossing a pair of new or gently used shoes in the collection box at church.   But keep one pair you want to donate and bring them to worship on Sunday, April 18th for a blessing.

HELP THE HOMELESS FEB 21 - MAR 21

We are supporting area homeless shelters by collecting personal care items during the next month.  Items needed include soap, shampoo, deodorant, dental care items, laundry soap, cleaning supplies, garbage bags, paper towels, bath tissue, feminine care items, diapers and baby care items, and first aid kits.

Simply drop off the items in the box in the narthex.

Contact Steve Graf or Pastor Tabitha with questions.

EASTER EGG EVENT COMING UP
EASTER CANDY NEEDED

Our annual Easter Egg Event is scheduled for Saturday, March 27.  This is an event we plan for the children of the congregation and children in our neighborhood.  Put this on the calendar for your kids and grandkids!

Now we need to gather candy we put into the eggs that children hunt on our lawn.  All items must be individually wrapped and able to fit into a plastic Easter egg.  No hard candy please. Help us fill the white Easter basket near the mailboxes.  Cash donations are helpful also and can be put in the offering plates or sent to the church office marked "Easter Egg Event."

FIRST COMMUNION INSTRUCTION
MARCH 14, 21, AND 28

First Communion instruction for children is scheduled for March 14, 21, and 28 from 1-3 at the church.  Children and parents attend each session.
Children, beginning in 2nd grade are invited to participate in communion at Gloria Dei.  Children and their parents decide when to begin taking part in this sacrament and then participate in this instruction.  Older children or youth who have not taken their first communion also are invited to participate in these classes.  Parents of children younger than 2nd grade who would like their children to begin taking communion are encouraged to talk with Pastor Jon.

First Communion will be at worship on Maudy Thursday,  April 1, at 6:30PM

STRETCH AND PRAY MON & THU 7:30 AM

Our Health Ministry Team also leads an exercise opportunity on Monday and Thursday mornings at 7:30 AM at the church.  This is a video-led program of stretching, gentle excise and walking.  Just bring a mat or rug.  All welcomed!

SCRIP NEWS:  2010 SCHEDULE

SCRIP schedule for next few months will be . . .

March 14 and 28
April 11 and 25
May 9 and 23

We will be at the table in the fellowship area approximately 20 minutes before and after each service.  If you cannot pick up your order, please call Brian and Darlene Engstrom to make arrangements.  We no longer keep SCRIP at the church.

If you have not tried SCRIP, make it a new year's resolution.  Purchase SCRIP "gift cards" for most of the places you shop or do business . . . and Gloria Dei receives a percentage of the purchase to support mission and ministry here and in the community.

In 2009, members of our congregation placed 579 orders for a total of $128,835 . . . and $6,866 for ministries at Gloria Dei.

The 3rd Quarter (2009) proceeds have been received and have been divided between our Youth Program, Evangelism and Fellowship Ministry, Crossways Camping Ministry, and an extra principal payment on our building debt. The benevolence portion of 4th Quarter proceeds will go to Haiti Earthquake Relief.

Interested in Membership
at Gloria Dei?

The process of becoming member takes place twice a year.  If you are interested in considering membership, the next membership orientation process will take place on two Sundays, February 28 and March 7 at 9:15 AM.  New members will be received at on Sunday March 21.  (We ask you to reserve all three Sundays.)  If you have questions or would like to talk further about the possibility of membership, please speak with Pastor Tabitha.  Although this process takes place just a couple times a year, we invite you to  worship with us on a regular basis, involve your family in opportunities like Sunday School & Bible Study, allow us to get to know each other, and actively participate in community of faith at Gloria Dei.

Welcome New Neighbors

The packets are located on the table outside of the church office in a lime green bag. Just pick one up and take it along with a copy of the current DeiLites – or if you would like someone from the EFM Visitors Team to drop it off, contact Marlene in the church office with their name and address and we’ll make sure it’s delivered.

Members and Visitors with Special Needs

You will also notice that there are some arm chairs in the last row of the sanctuary for those persons who find it easier to get up and down from a chair rather than the pews Please feel free to use them. For those who use a wheelchair feel free to be seated at the end of any of the pews.

SIMPLE WAYS YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We Care Program -

Gloria Dei is registered at Pick 'n Save in Neenah for their We Care Program. This means that on each dollar you spend at Pick 'N Save, 1% will be donated back to the church. All you need to do is register at the service desk and ask for Gloria Dei's code number to be put on your form. You will receive a tag and card to be used each time you check out. If you already have your tag for identification purposes, but haven't designated somewhere for your donations to go, or would like to change your designation, just check in at the service desk. Gloria Dei's code number is 280300 and every time you use your key card 1% is credited to Gloria Dei. Last year we received about $500 back on this program.

Box Tops for Education

We are collecting the General Mills Box Tops for Education that are on General Mills products. These box tops are then donated to a local school to help purchase extra items for that school. There is an ice cream pail on the food collection shelf in the narthex near the mailboxes if you'd like to bring your box tops to donate.

Morton Pharmacy Rebates

If you shop at Morton Pharmacy you can enroll in the Morton Members customer appreciation program. Indicate Gloria Dei as your designated local charitable organization and Morton Pharmacy will make a cash donation to Gloria Dei based upon your purchases. This does not include prescription drugs. Stop in at Morton's and see how easy it is to become a Morton Member.

Used Ink Cartridges

Bring your used ink cartridges to church and help the church save on office supplies.  Used cartridges are exchanged for credit to purchase new ink for our computer printers.  We saved $884 in 2009 with these donations.  This is great stewardship to the church and the environment
