Gloria Dei Lutheran Church is mission-centered congregation. That means we make central to our faith the calling to be "God's Hands" in the world.
We seek to find mission opportunities that make use of our talents as individual members of the congregation and as a congregation together. We seek to find mission opportunities in our local community, in region and country, and internationally.
We encourage the special mission interests of our members. And we commit ourselves as a congregation to particular mission projects. We support and engage in mission projects sponsored by a wide range of organizations, including our national church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Recent Mission Activities
- Pine Ridge Reservation. (South Dakota) Gloria Dei members have traveled to Pine Ridge many times, most recently in 2007 to build and deliver home furnishings, working with the organization, Remember.
- Members traveled to Louisana and Mississipi after Hurricane Katrina in 2008.
- Members traveled to Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota, along with a group from our synod, to assist with clean-up and rebuilding after floods in 2009.
- Three Gloria Dei members traveled to Sibui, Romania, in 2010 to assist Pastor Joel and Susan Schlachtenhaufer in their ministry to the Lutheran community in Transalvania. They helped refurbish a former church building into a community center for environmental education.
