Gloria Dei Opportunities

Gloria Dei's "Honey Do" List.  Our Property Ministry has begun a "Honey Do" list is small projects.  Contact Grant Wilson (Property Ministry Chair) or Marlene in the church office.  Currently on the list are these projects . . .

Help with the Church Grounds this Summer.  At Gloria Dei we do not have a grounds staff or a contract service.  We invite members to plant and maintain our flower beds, trim or bushes and trees, and mow our lwan.  Please consider joining our "grounds crew" this year.  We do have lawn and garden equipment and tools.  Sign up for lawn mowing and for trimming and edging on the Kiosk.  For  more information, contact Grant Wilson (Property Ministry) at 716-1802 or check the Kiosk.

Serve at WorshipSign up to serve as Acolyte, Usher, Lector, Liturgist, Greeter, Communion Assistant, Nursery, and Altar Guild in the three months ahead.  Sheets are posted for every three month period on the Kiosk in the narthex.  If you have not served in these ways and would like information or have questions, please contact Marlene Marks at the church office or gdchurch@tds.net  or 725-6822.  All members including new members are encouraged to serve the church in these ways.  Check out "Serving This Month" on the Calendar page of the site to see who is serving and "holes" in the calendar that you might fill.

Join the OLD GOATS.  OLD GOATS - Our Laypeople Doing GloriaDei's Organizational And Technical Services - is a long standing tradition at Gloria Dei.  Members individually or in groups offers time and talents to do things that otherwise we would hire someone to do.  "Old" has nothing to do with age. And our "goats" simply offer to do what needs to be done around the church.  That might include organizing, fixing, building, designing, installing, or just providing some elbow grease to a project.  Contact Marlene in the church office for a list of projects . . . or propose your own project if you see something that you think would improve our church facilities or ministries.

LWR Health Kits
. Lutheran World Relief (LWR) provides health kits all over the world for disaster victims and refugees from repression and political violence.  Help us gather the materials for these kits.  You can donate dark wash cloths and hand towels, wrapped bath-sized bars of soap, store-wrapped toothbrushes, sturdy combs, metal nail files and clippers, and band-aids (1/2" and 3/4").  Or you can contribute the cost of shipping (and the toothpaste added where the kits are assembled) which is $2.64 for each kit.  Contact Steve Graf (Church and Community Ministry) at scgraf@new.rr.com or Pastor Tabitha for more information.

Help Design Church CommunicationsAre you experienced in using PhotoShop, Illustrator, or InDesign.  The congregation's Communications Team is looking for assistance in designing church publications, signage, and other communications materials. Please contact Robin Rupnow at 836-0206 or r2rupnow@aol.com.

Help Design Our New Website.  We have begun a new design for our church website (www.gloriadeilc.org). We are looking for members interested in assisting with this project. No technical expertise necessary . . . just good ideas about content and design and getting our message out to via the internet. More and more persons are looking for churches and what they have to offer through the web. More and more congregations are using the web to serve its members. Email (wisyoung@new.rr.com) or call (729-6456) Bob Young with questions or ideas or with your interest in joining the team.

After School "Coffee House".  Coffee House began in October and we’re already up to 120+ youth who have stopped by for fun, food, and fellowship.  Last week we had 123 youth stop in. To make this time go as smoothly as possible we are looking for some donations from the congregation: Brownie Mix, Lunch Meat/Bread, Chocolate Chips, Nacho Chips, Cookies, Salsa, Spaghetti/Pizza Sauce,     Flour, Hamburger Buns, Sugar (white/brown), Mozzarella/Italian Cheese, Veggie Dip, Hot Dogs/Buns, Celery sticks, Carrots, Cookies, Velveeta, Hot chocolate mix, Rice Krispies, and marshmallows.

Any donation toward the coffee house would be greatly appreciated.  Thank You!   To all those who have donated supplies and food for the Coffee House.  We’ve received baking supplies like sugar and flour, boxed mixes, nachos, salsa, hot dogs and buns, spaghetti sauce, apples and already-baked items.  We are extremely thankful for all that we’ve received.

Cookies for Father Carr.  Cookie List for 2010 for Father Carr’s Place 2-B is found posted on the bulletin board.  Anyone who would be willing to make 4 dozen cookies one month should sign up.  We need 4 volunteers each month to bake cookies and these are taken to Father Carr’s for lunch once a month when the Priscilla Circle makes a meal for the shelter.

Altar Flowers.  2010 FLOWER CHART is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway.  Please indicate which Sunday you would like to donate flowers and if they are for a special occasion.

Coffee Hour Sponsorships.

Members are invited to sponsor our Fellowship Hour coffee.  The cost is only $10.  Sign up for a week . . . or more.  You simply sign up on the Kiosk and send a check to the church office or put it in the offering plate marked "Coffee Sponsorship."

We purchase and serve "fair trade" coffee from Equal Exchange.  The coffee is raised by farmers and sold on exchanges that ensure fair value to the farmers and other workers involved in the processing and delivery chain.  Our Church and Community Ministry coordinates this unique form of stewardship and social justice.

Altar Guild.  Altar Guild members prepare the altar for worship each week, including setting up communion and placing the seasonal paraments on the altar and lecturn.  Any member is welcomed to assist with this ministry.  New members might find this a meaningful  and easy way to serve the church.  Contact Pastor Jon for more information.

Synod Mission Trips  Our ELCA synod - East Central Wisconsin Synod - continues to organize mission opportunities to assist in the aftermath of floods in Iowa and hurricanes in the Louisiana and Missippi.  Alley Shepeck at Our Savior in Neenah serves as the synod Missions Coordinator.  Contact Bryan Engstrom for more information at bengstrom@new.rr.com or 722-7582.
